Whispering Birches

Ruth is a main character, being the Kapo who re-directs Franz's nature toward compassion. We hear that Ruth is only her work name for she worked as a prostitute. Her real name is Sara Raquel, which is significant in that it positions her as one of the Archangels Sara which is considered as the archangel of fairness, harmony and justice. Whispering Birches is the only book in which Ruth appears in that she meets her end in Auschwitz.
